Our Cars Speak For Themselves

Lightning McQueen is a cocky, rookie race car. Speeding on his way to a big race, he crashes into Radiator Springs, destroying lots of the inhabitants belongings. In order to make up for what he did, the cocky roadster is sentenced to community service. Though he will do anything to get away from the work, McQueen must learn to respect and bond with the Radiator Springs inhabitants in order to get out of the town and back on the racetracks.

Jag vet inte om man börja förvanta sig mer och mer för varje ny Pixar-film som släpps. För denna filmen nådde inte riktigt upp till de förvantningar jag hade på den. Det är en bra film. Men den berörde mig inte riktigt som Pixars tidigare filmer. Så som Monsters, Inc. och Finding Nemo.

Monster

A dark tale based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos, one of America’s first female serial killers. Wuornos had a difficult and cruel childhood plagued by abuse and drug use in Michigan. She became a prostitute by the age of thirteen, the same year she became pregnant. She eventually moved to Florida where she began earning a living as a highway prostitute–servicing the desires of semi-truck drivers. The tale focuses on the nine month period between 1989 and 1990, during which Wuornos had a lesbian relationship with a woman named Selby. And during that very same time, she also began murdering her clientele in order to get money without using sex. This turned the tables on a rather common phenomena of female highway prostitutes being the victims of serial killers–instead Wuornos, herself, carried out the deeds of a cold-blooded killer.

Inte riktigt så bra som jag hade förväntat mig. Trodde detta skulle vara en super bra film. Missförstå mig rätt. Det är en bra film. Men jag hade nog för höga förväntningar på den. Den är klart sevärd och skådespelarinsatserna är briljanta. Speciellt äckligt är att filmen bygger på verkliga händelser. Tyvärr beror inte filmen mig speciellt mycket, därav det “låga” betyget.

Heart Under Blade

Shinobi centers on the drama resulting from the war between two ninja clans in the early part of the Tokugawa era. In the film, Nakama Yukie portrays Oboro, the granddaughter of Ogen (Lily), the respected Iga clan matriarch, while Odagiri Jo plays Gennosuke, the son of Danjo Koga (Minoru Terada), the powerful Koga clan leader. While living deep within the mountains, the two ninja clans have honed their skills to superhuman levels. Unfortunately, the clans do not get along and are forbidden by imperial decree from sharing their techniques with each other. Viewing the two ninja clans as a threat to his scheme for total domination, the nefarious Nankobo Tenkai (Ishibashi Renji) plots to intensify the rivalry between the two clans. Nakobo creates a contest in which the clans are forced to choose five of their best warriors to participate. The battle, however, isn’t just a friendly contest – it’s a duel to the death!

Filmens stora behållning är de underbara landskapen och den snygga koreografin. Historien kring Oboro och Gen-no-suke kärlek tycker jag inte riktigt når fram till tittaren, men tror mest det beror på att jag ännu inte riktigt fått häng på asiatiskt bildspråk.

You’ve never seen football like this

After a fateful mistake costing his career, an ex-soccer player bum meets a shaolin kung fu student trying to spread the word of kung fu. The ex-soccer player helps reconcile with his five brothers, and teaches them soccer, adding shaolin kung fu as a twist.

Tycker faktiskt att Stephen Chows senare film Kung Fu Hustle är bättre. Den var mycket underhållande, men tyvärr lite långtråkig under vissa delar.
